IT was a surprise gift to the teaching staff and the students of Ku High School in Simbu Province. The first school anthology to be published in Papua New Guinea.

Two hundred copies of the Ku High School Anthology were formally handed over to new head teacher, Wera Essy, in front of 200 students and the ten teaching staff.

A few remarks from Jimmy Awagl encouraged students to think hard and appreciate reading and writing to improve their command of English.

“The hosting of 2015 Crocodile Prize and the publication of this book are big moments in Simbu literature,” Jimmy told the students and teachers.

Then copies were presented to students who had contributed to the Anthology as well as to teaching staff.

Mr Essy expressed his gratitude and assured that Ku High School will maintain its membership and support of the Simbu Writers Association.

Deputy head Joe Gallah applauded the final product of the students literary works appearing in book form.

“We extend our words of gratitude to the chief editor, Francis Nii, and the members of Simbu Writers Association,” he said.

Five copies each of Ku High School Anthology and the 2014 Crocodile Prize Anthology were presented to principal education advisor, Essy Walkaim, as a belated New Year gift from the Association.

Francis Nii wrote a letter mentioning everything which will be accomplished this year. The letter also complimented the effort of the Provincial Education Division for supporting the work of the Association.

Jimmy Drekore, Arnold Mundua, Francis Nii and Jimmy Awagl presented the entire gift at his office.

Mr Walkaim assured SWA members of counterpart funding to host the 2015 Crocodile Prize in Kundiawa.

Another additional 100 copies of both Anthologies began to be distributed to all Simbu schools on Wednesday, starting at Kundiawa Lutheran Day High School.

The two anthologies are being used to build awareness of the Provincial Students Literary Competition and the 2015 Crocodile Prize among politicians, business houses and the public.

Ku High School students’ entries for the literary competition as well as the 2015 Crocodile Prize are gaining momentum and flooding in like Wara Simbu.
