KU High School – which will co-host the forthcoming National Literacy Day celebrations in Simbu – is only a recently established lower secondary school.
Ku High School is the only school so far to affiliate with the recently established Simbu Writers Association (SWA) to promote Simbu literature.
While the school lacks facilities and learning materials, it is happy to assist the Simbu Writers Association host its first school literary program as part of its policy to promote diversity through forums and coaching to facilitate learning.
The Simbu Writers Association has come up with the concept of providing Simbu schools with the essence of Simbu literature.
An important goal is to encourage and promote English in schools so students will appreciate speaking, reading and writing English.
National Literacy Day at Ku High School on Monday 8 September will include many Simbu writers, academics, elites, bureaucrats, business houses, students and teachers.
All 18 high schools and secondary schools in Simbu have been invited to participate and the main celebrants will be the students who will engage in debates, public speaking, quizzes, recitation of poems, role plays, drama, creative dance and displays of art – not forgetting, of course, the essay, short story and poetry contest.
Prizes will include books written by Simbu authors Francis Sina Nii, Dr Sine Bare, Arnold Mundua, Joe Kunda Naru, David Herman, Ignatius Kiagle and other authors.
