PNG mourns its Grand Chief
An East Sepik man
Devoted to family
A peace loving man
With wisdom unchallenged
PNG mourns its Grand Chief
As good leaders do, he fought
With his brothers bonded as one
People from mountains, swamps, seas
Though some were against
Leaders don’t surrender to frailty
PNG mourns for its Father
He led with determination to rid
Racism, discrimination, servanthood
Wanted children to learn,
And to explore the world
What is ours must remain ours forever
PNG mourns for the Grand Chief of Chiefs
For such a great Grand Chief
Ten million people and
Eight hundred cultures
Mourn in diverse ways
To salute, respect and honour him
PNG was born as a country
With you as father
As honourable chief for so long
Now close your tired eyes on us
You peacefully served so long on
PNG mourns for Papa Sana
May you know in your spiritual life
The country you fathered and groomed
Will live to eternity free, and proud,
That was your very desire, your dream
Our Great Grand Chief will be remembered
As as long as our flag freely flies
PNG Grand Chief, rest in peace
